With this album, we bring three very different musical worlds into dialogue with one another: Gabriel Fauré, Frank Martin, and Viktor Ullmann.

What particularly appeals to us about this compilation is the tension between sonic culture and the desire for expression. Fauré’s music opens up a space of great subtlety and inner calm—almost like a quiet breath. With Martin, we experience a unique blend of clarity and emotion that continually challenges and surprises us as we play. And finally, Ullmann confronts us with an existential urgency that goes far beyond the purely musical.

A special impetus for this project came from our longtime friend and musical companion Hinrich Alpers. We are united by a close artistic collaboration and a shared understanding of music as a living exchange. His initiative and perspective have decisively shaped this program and inspired us to place these three composers in a new context.

As we developed this program, we sensed how strongly these three voices illuminate one another. Differences stand out clearly, but at the same time, unexpected connections emerge—in colors, structures, and forms of expression.

For us, this album is a journey through very personal soundscapes. It is about contrasts, but also about what unites them: the search for expression, for depth, and for a voice all their own.
